“LOCKSMITH” SCAM ALERT!
Don’t be the next victim! Beware of certain individuals posing as legitimate locksmiths, generally overcharging for services, performing unskilled work and prey on people who are in vulnerable emergency situations. They are also known to place hundreds of ads in the internet/print with different names, phone numbers, and phony addresses to convince you that you are dealing with a local company. When you call the listed number you are actually connected with a call center that many times will be out-of-state. They will quote you a very low price over the phone, and when they show up and do the work they will bill you for a much higher amount. The person they send will generally arrive in an unmarked vehicle, and may even perform unnecessary sub-standard work.
Here are a few things you can do to help avoid this scam. (1) Check the phone number; if you see other ad's with similar numbers, chances are great that you will be calling a call center. (2) Ask for the company name, and where are they located? Before giving your address, ask the company for theirs! (3) Look at the ad and make sure that the company name & license number is clearly shown, if they don't avoid them. (4) Check that the company is registered in the State of Florida fictitious names listing at: www.sunbiz.org, and search the company name. There you will also find the address, and the owner’s name.
